YEMISI at VIRTUE – an all female creative exhibit

Meet Yemisi.

Hailing from Victoria, BC, Yemisi is a young woman who just can’t get enough of art. Spending a lot of her spare time at a museum or art show, this time Yemi will be able to share her poetry here in Toronto on September 13th at Studio 1176.

When asked what inspires her to create Yemisi responded:

“I feel like I draw inspiration from anywhere – a song, someone’s outfit, a description of art at a museum. So I think the question for me is not what inspires me, but what do I in turn do with that inspiration?”

A creative inspired by many things can lead to just about anything as not only is she a great writer but she has a good eye too. Seriously, her Instagram is poppin’.

How do you think creative women are perceived in the industry?

“I am not a Toronto native so I am still new to the poetry scene here and the creative scene as a whole. I do however think that female poets are doing their thing and are holding it down for female poets everywhere.”

How do you perceive feminism?

“I perceive (intersectional) feminism as necessary for any progress or change to come about in our world today.”

Where do you wish to take your art in the future?

“I hope to take my art overseas one day and grow and learn from other poets around the world.”
