Meet Leeyah (Ifrah Omar).
A young artist who has completely raw talent. Constantly exploring her skills, Leeyah often leaves drawings undone to get to the next piece. However, when she decided to using oil paint, she completed beautiful pieces that she will be sharing with us at VIRTUE – a female creative exhibit on September 13th at Studio 1176.
Get to know Leeyah in our Q&A and view a few of her drawings below.
What inspires you to create?
“My art is completely internally driven, it is about my emotions and passions of the moment.
I believe inspiration is embedded into the never ending journey of the human soul.
I personally think all great art is produced this way. Whether if it is an abstract, landscape or figure, it is all inspiration coming from within us. ”
How do you think creative women are perceived in the industry?
“I think more women are getting recognized for their creativity in the industry or any industry for the most part, but there are still some unseen barriers.
Women still have to do more than men to prove themselves and this puts women in the position of having to go above and beyond the standards to which men are held in order to demonstrate their artistic abilities. But it warms my heart to see how far women have come, as they continue to hold it down. I applaud you all!”
How do you perceive feminism?
“Feminism is about equality and i believe that as humans we all are able to achieve the same goals or even greater ones no matter what gender you may be.”
Where do you wish to take your art in the future?
“I wish to take my art all around the globe if possible and be recognized for my creativity and individualism. But for now I’m just trying to share something small everyday and put my work out there because you never know when you’ll start meeting some amazing people.”
Leech does not put her art on display online so come out to VIRTUE to see more of her work.
