If you have ever lost someone in you life that’s really important to you, then you will definitely relate to Ian Kamau’s track “An Ocean Between Us”. It is about how he lost his sister on March this year, and he speaks on Roxanne and her children; Emmanuel and Kyle.

Ian Kamau was raised by his film-maker parents that are from Trinidad, but was raised and resides in Toronto. He is a Canadian hip hop and spoken word artist, writer, visual artist and has done features with artists such as K-OS and Shad.

This track contains a conversation with his father that he recorded on his phone in his apartment downtown Toronto at the beginning and mostly in the end, but in between he mentions being in a church while saying goodbye to her, how much he loved her and the difficulty in writing the track, speaking on how life isn’t fair, wishing she was still here.

The track has a sample from the song “Bettina” by Bola Sete, but was written, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Ian himself.

Overall, this track is definitely worth the listen, and will make you feel for Ian, so vibe out below.
