A few months ago, I had the opportunity to meet the amazingly talented Shantell Martin at the annual Sneaker Design Project, only I wasn’t exactly familiar with her or her work. Fast forward to today, and I’m a huge fan.
Shantell Martin is a British visual artist who is known for her work with continuous lines, her stream of consciousness drawings, and light projections.
What’s so special about her work is it’s uniqueness and its intimacy. She uses white surfaces big and small, and works with black ink which draws you to different parts of her art. Her pieces are as much about her as they are about you, the viewer.
Shantell has many accolades under her belt, and has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live, has appeared in Creative Review Magazine, was named French Glamour’s New York’s “coolest it girl” in 2011, did an exterior installation on the Bata Shoe Museum here in Toronto, and even held her own Ted Talk.
